DEMENTIA (Memory Disorders) CLINIC

Dementia is a neurodegenerative disorder, widely prevalent but often under recognized especially during its initial stages. We plan to start a memory clinic for early diagnosis and management of cognitive impairment which constitutes disturbances in memory, communication, and thinking. The various facilities provided at the memory clinic will be- Detailed history taking for the symptoms at presentation. Detailed cognitive assessment using neurocognitive and neuropsychiatric scales. Evaluation of cause and treatment of cognitive impairment. Early recognition and management of various complications associated with cognitive impairment eg gait disturbances, behaviour alterations. Early recognition of reversible and treatable causes of dementia. Stratification of patients according to severity of disease. Skill enhancement of patients with dementia to make them self dependent. Formation of support groups for patients and care givers. All the above mentioned evaluation, treatment and support will be provided by a team of neurologist, neuropsychologist and trained nursing staff.
